.

.
my tree project is almost done now, i just have to tape the trunk down (the hardest part) and pop it in the frame.

ok back to my little artist statement thing
i dont like the idea of "deconstructing " a tree, i would like to think of it like a "re-creation"

So what draws me to re-create these trees?
When I see a tree I see progressing life and the desire to become something more, forever reaching into the unknown, all the while providing beauty that brings us back to simplicity. Life is always progressing; no moment can ever be relived. By capturing a moment of a tree's life cycle (as well as the life provided by it) I am capturing its goals and struggles (its goal being to reach the sky, and its struggle to get sunlight). By re-creating their shape through my lens, I am discovering their individual story. I saw my first sugar maple of fall 2010 today and even though its leaves were in the midst of dying, its beauty reassured me that there is hope in even the darkest days. Where there is failure, a chance to succeed follows. That alone gives us hope; hope that the beauty we create will inspire those around us, or at the very least evoke the feeling of wonder and joy they had not previously had. Hope to play a significant part in someone’s life. Hope that your memory will last longer than you will.

here it is

this is the almost finished product, i still have to make the trunk of different kinds of bark, im thinking squares so i can peace them together. i want it to be a strong, study, stable tree

There is something about a tree that you can always count on, it’s always in the same place, it will always grow and produce leaves or fruit, and they will always die, break, or root. But more importantly trees always support life, where there are trees there will be insects, birds, worms, they even provide wood to make fire for warmth which we cannot live without. Trees bring us back to our basic needs as human beings

trees also go back to the basic need everyone feels to be connected to something, to be a part of something, and occasionally to struggle. Different people look to all kinds of things to feel connected such as religion, family, friends, siblings, lovers etc. all these things make us a part of something, they also fill our needs emotionally, spiritually, and physically. now, back to the struggle part, struggling is a part of every life form on the planet, trees struggle for light, fish struggle to survive, even the most basic life form struggles for food (the sea sponge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laJgUrSsO_k&feature=related ) I believe it is healthy to struggle for something, if I really think about it struggling begins as soon as  I wake up in the morning, I struggle getting out of bed, driving to school, paying attention in class, even decisions like should I spend five/six dollars of my hard earned money for something to eat or save it for later and settle for something less appetizing? (Eight out of ten times I will choose to settle). The point is that it is healthy to struggle every once in a while, it makes us who we are. All these ideas ultimately come back to trees in the fact that trees are connected to the earth air and water, yet they are always reaching for something more and their struggle for light shape and mold them into what we see in nature today.

there is always an opportunity to learn something from everything.

i didnt touch on what draws me to the deconstruction of trees yet but i will once the finished product is done.

recent ideas

on the way home tonight i thought about some how constructing a traffic light and instead of the red, yellow, and green lights, there would be images. there are two ways i could go with this

maybe (what society considers) unacceptable human behavior for the red, on the fence behavior for the yellow, and acceptable human behavior for the green, it would have to be pictures of one person, maybe females at different points in their life, like adolescence would be the red, early twenty's experimentation would be yellow, then later years would be the green

maybe the earth, like the sky could be red, mountains would be yellow, and grass/trees would be green.

that got me thinking of the elements, which reminded me of i-ching, i could construct an octagon and put pictures inside of the elements represented by the lines, i would have to travel for those pictures, maybe i could take them digitally.

my other idea was to construct a big butterfly and putting pictures inside the wings.. but i have to give that more thought

just some brain storming
